Mir Projects & Consultants have successfully performed the feasibility study and business plan for India’s first International Cruise Terminal cum Public Plaza proposed at Willingdon Island, Cochin. The project is a pioneering move to develop the Cochin port into an integrated, world class, Cruise Terminal offering varied services and facilities. The infrastructure proposed is on a build up area of 80609 m2 revolving around an estimated budget of Rs. 400 crore. The team emerged triumphant from among the 40 bidders who responded to the global tender floated by Cochin Port Trust in this regard and the consultancy work undertaken won much acclaim and is expected to be commissioned by 2012. The two principal elements of the project were:

Cruise Terminal: The project has done extensive study of the following possibilities:

  • Berthing passenger vessels
  • Embarking and disembarking of passengers and the luggage by surface transportation modes
  • Implementation of the operations, for both port of call and home port vessels

Public Plaza: The space at the backlands was also proposed to be developed into a commercial site including a wide range of facilities such as:

  • Shopping Mall:  A premium shopping experience especially for cruise passengers and tourists promoting export and import opportunities in the region
  • Office Tower: Designed as a business centre equipped with modern amenities to accommodate international trading firms
  • Hotel Complex: A nine-storey, five star hotel with 238 rooms offering premium services and world-class facilities and parking arrangements
  • Kerala Village: A year-round public attraction reflecting the cultures and traditions of the nation like art forms, lifestyle, cuisines, history etc. and also ayurvedic spa and meditation centre.
